New Wave Productions is an independent film and television production company operating since 1995. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, the company also specializes in media consultancy for international TV channels. It is owned and managed by producer and director Shaffee Shaik.

At present New Wave Productions continues to produce programming for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), pay channel MNet and international Asian TV networks.

2011 sees the company entering its 8th year of producing the popular weekly Sunday magazine series, ‘Spirit Sundae’ for South Africa’s largest television audience on the SABC1 channel.

The TV show has become one of SABC1’s flagship multi-faith programmes, aimed at promoting religious tolerance and understanding amongst the citizens of the new South Africa, now referred to as the Rainbow Nation since achieving democracy in 1994.

The extension of Spirit Sundae contracts over the past 8 years reaffirms New Wave Productions’ commitment to delivering innovative and quality programming to the national broadcaster.

As a producer and director, Shaffee Shaik has to-date been responsible for at least 8 other series of magazines shows and about 16 various documentaries for both SABC1 and SABC2.  

In January 2008, the company was also successful in securing a 13 part series entitled ‘Women in Science’ which was commissioned by SABC Education and supported by the SA Government Department of Education.

With a National Diploma in Video Tecshnology from the Durban University of Technology behind him since 1991, Shaffee has sharpened his skills in becoming a highly professional and disciplined producer and technical director whose talents are in demand both locally and internationally. 

In 1996, the company help launch the International Asian channel ZEE TV on Multichoice's DStv digital satellite platform. New Wave Productions was tasked to run the ZEE TV operation for 3 years which included station imaging, daily programme scheduling, technical play-out and satellite co-ordination of international news and sports bulletins.

In 2001, Shaffee was then appointed by Sony Entertainment Network as their Africa representative for Sony Entertainment Television Asia (SET Asia) and SET MAX, both 24hour premium digital satellite entertainment channels, which are also available on Multichoice’s DStv pay TV platform. He was also appointed to consult for the 24hr Asian movie channel B4U. These positions, which he has held for the past 10 years, makes him responsible for the channels programming and marketing needs in Africa, including local TV productions.

Due to his highly skilled production background, Shaffee is also SET Asia’s first choice for directing international stage shows and special events in the USA and UK.

New Wave Productions also has its own in-house camera and sound equipment as well as three professional Final Cut Pro video edit suites and a Pro Tools audio final mix suite, complete with sound booth, music library and at least 3 broadcast formats to playback and record or master to.

The company remains committed to black and female empowerment and every year offers at least 4 students from various Film & TV schools internships or apprenticeships, often employing them and training them further to become highly skilled individuals at all levels of production.
